Research examines the ways that tactile interfaces can be designed to support users when the visual channel is blocked, restricted or overloaded. Studies have focused on the needs of individuals who are blind, older adults, and individuals who experience situational impairments (SIIDs). More recent work has examined areas associated with usable security for mobile technologies. PI or Co-PI on research awards from agencies such as NSF, ONR and NIST. 2015 – 2016 – University System of Maryland’s PROMISE AGEP Outstanding Faculty Mentor.
