Uses the new computational methodologies of bioinformatics to align, classify and predict interactions of proteins as well as to identify the role of certain mutations in the disease mechanisms. Chaired international conference sessions at the Pacific Symposium on Biocomputing, Intelligent Systems and Molecular Biology and the American Medical Informatics Association Summit in Bioinformatics. Member of AMIA, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the International Society of Computational Biology. On the editorial board of the Journal of Biomedical Informatics and the International Journal of Computations Models and Algorithms in Medince. Advisory board member of the PubMedCentral National Committee. Member of the UMBC Diversity Council and co-founder of the Latino/Hispanic Faculty Association. Chaired International conferences such as the Pacific Symposium on Biocomputing and the translational bioinformatics conference, is an associate editor of the journals PLoS-Computational Biology and Journal of Biomedical Informatics and past advisory board member of the PubMedCentral National Committee at NIH; UMBC Diversity Council member, Executive Committee on the Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement of URM Faculty, and Latino/Hispanic Faculty Association founding member.”
