Research focus is on the history of U.S. foreign relations, particularly Sino-American relations and U.S.-East Asian relations, with a subfield in transnational migration, especially Chinese and Asian immigration. Recently published an article on Hong Kong refugees in the Journal of Cold War Studies. Forthcoming book, The Diplomacy of Migration: Transnational Lives and the Making of U.S.-Chinese Relations in the Cold War (Cornell University Press). Member of the Asian Studies Program advisory board.
